More tire talk on how to change a tire![]() .This is to help you change a tire safely and have the proper equipment to do so. Things you need to check for. Make sure you have a spare tire and a car Jack or vehicle Jack for the make and model of your vehicle. You will need an air gauge to make sure your tire is properly inflated before you try to install it on your vehicle. Have the proper lug nut wrench for the model of your vehicle. If you check to make sure you have these things it can save you a lot of time and money. The guys that change your oil check your tire pressure. Have them check your spare also.
If ever you have a tire problem or a blowout always pull your vehicle as far off the road as possible. This is for your own safety and for the safety of those traveling around you. Make sure when you pull off the road you are keeping your vehicle as level as possible. Always turn on your hazard lights and shut off your engine. This next step is extremely important. Make sure you apply the parking brake to prevent your vehicle from rolling when you are changing the tire. Look around for a rock or stick if you don't have a wheel chock. Place on front and rear of the tires you will not be changing. This can keep the vehicle from rolling. If you're not sure about anything check with your owners manual, or give us a call. We also have a mobile tire service.
How to check what size tire you need.
Read your tire sidewall and once you find the series of numbers on your tires sidewall this is what the tire mechanic will need. It should look something like this. M+S P215,60R16 94 V The M+S means mud and snow. The P is the designation meaning it is for a passenger car. LT would mean it was for a light truck. The 215 stands for the tire width and is measured in mm from sidewall to sidewall. So this tire is a 215mm The 60 is aspect ratio. The ratio of the height of the tire cross-section. Seen in this example 16 means the height is equal to 60% of tire width. The R stands for radial tire. This tells us how the construction layers of the tire are put together. If it would have been a B that would stand for bias in the layers of construction run diagonally across the tire. The 16 is the rim diameter in inches. So if a tire reads 16 it needs to be put on a rim / wheel which is a 16 inch. you may find this interesting Here is the list of the tire brands that you probably need to get off your vehicle. This list was made by the Federal Trade Commission and have marked the following brands as unsafe tires. It will be great to get these low quality Chinese tires off the market. Here is a list of the tire companies.
